You’re writing that character wrong!

The problem, I think, stems from the fact that to a lot of us viewers/readers/fans/audience these characters are not just characters. They’re actual people. They live real lives, have real feelings, there are real consequences to their actions. So when we say the creators are writing them wrong, what we mean is the creators have not justified, in the text, the behavior of the characters. The characters are not internally consistent. The creator’s hand is visible. The creator’s hand should never be visible. That’s bad writing.* So yes, creators can write the charcters wrong and actors can act the character wrong. If the character, even a minor one, is not at bare minimum internally consistent in their behavior/actions/thoughts then the creators have failed them.

ETA: *Some exceptions to the rule, of course.
