Another post exemplifying why I follow Lebanesepoppyseed
when talking to white ppl and they come to me and are like “you’re mean and you generalize!!”
and I’m like “and”
and they’re like “WELL ISN’T THAT WHAT YOU’RE AGAINST” and they’re all smug like they’ve got me pinned in a corner
and I’m just like “…no”
when did I say that
I was never against being “mean” and “generalizing”. Ever.
I AM against abuse, against supremacy, against bigotry, against hate, against needless hierarchies, against perpetuating horrible fucked up shit.
but that isn’t the same as “mean”, and I only take issue with generalizations that hurt, aka ones from people with power and privilege towards oppressed/marginalized groups. That said, generalizations are very powerful and useful for marginalized groups towards groups with power for many reasons-to put down and mock the institutions and people that historically abuse them, to dismiss special snowflakey-ness in people with privilege and to make people and privilege realize that their privilege is inherent, not something they can just get rid of after one or two good deeds, etc. Also, there’s the fact that given the lack of power, their generalizations of white people and whiteness do not stand to hurt them.
I mean come on, your hurt fee fees isn’t equivalent to the shit I go through, sweetheart. Quit trying to make some “u r just as bad as the KKK” false equivalency shit with your oversimplified “ALL GENERALIZATIONS ARE WRONG” and “omg u r being MEAN” shit.
