Here’s why Stiles’ crush on Lydia doesn’t bother me. YMMV.

I want to talk about Stiles and Lydia for a second. There’s been a lot of discussion about Stiles’ crush on Lydia and that he’s “Nice Guy-ing” her. 

For those of you who’ve never heard the term before, the Nice Guy is one where he is not actually nice at all and in fact, he’s using “friendship” and “niceness” as tools to get what he wants. He doesn’t see the girl in question as anything more than an object he can obtain and he believes “friendship” is a mere obstacle in getting into said girl’s pants. He tends to do over-the-top things to get her to “notice” him and somehow magically she will see him as a potential partner. He often feels entitled to her attention and romantic feelings. It goes hand-in-hand a lot with the notion of Friend-zoning (which is also total bullshit), because Nice Guys often claimed they’ve been put in the Friend Zone by the object of their affection and the fact that said girl is never attracted to them is somehow a mark against HER and not him.  

All of that is of course horrible. Girls are not magic machines that if you put enough friendship coins into, they spit out sex and attention. Girls do not owe boys anything, no matter how much attention they’re given. Girls are not evil or bad or stupid or WHATEVER for not wanting to date someone.
